So sorry for your loss and for the ways our culture added to your pain. Thank you for sharing this part of your story with us.

(If you aren't already working on another book, I will say this essay feels like it could be the seed of something bigger.)

Chrissy, no one can take your pain away but neihher can they steal the love you still have for your father.

I restacked your phrase about white supremacy being the air we breathe. If ever we needed a clean air policy, that should be the first target.

Thank you for surviving and sharing your story.

Your writing and your work are a beautiful expression of the experience of losing your father, as well as a deep tribute to his worth. I’m sorry that he had to carry so much pain. It sounds like he also received a lot of love and meaning from his family during his life.

I am so sorry for your loss and feel so honored that you were willing to share your story with us in this space. While we have very different experiences in so many ways, the complexity of emotions you describe resonates deeply with me as the daughter of an alcoholic. Sending you so much compassion ❤️

Thank you for connecting the dots between addiction and anti-Blackness.

Your story will help normalize speaking about addiction which affects 1:4 people.

Addiction, perfectionism and white supremacy are bonds that hold us back, and as you explained so well, prevent our collective liberation. 💕

Oh my beautiful sis I’m again so sorry for the loss of your father. Grief is such a hard thing to carry especially when we’re carrying with the expectations that yt supremacy gives us regarding the people we lost. As someone who has worked in addiction & had family dealing with addiction I have nothing but hugs, love & peace for you. Blessings on this level of vulnerability for you❤️
