White supremacists marching in the streets, apartheid, famine. Meanwhile, my tween daughter's friends are all obsessed with make-up, nails and their weight. I'm losing my mind.
I didn't know we would be fighting the same battles as our daughters in the exact same way. Watching influencers weighing their food, fit bits, cleanses, ozempic. It's the same as Susanne Somers, pedometers, slim fast and prescription amphetamines. Diet culture never really left, we just keep doing it again and again.
And in my shock and grief following the election, I decided I'd put more focus on myself and my inner circle of people I love during this dangerous period when you-know-who was handed all the power he needs to ruin the world. That means taking very good care of myself and my family.
I’m 64 years old and just became a grandma- I both can’t believe and absolutely CAN believe that my 8-week-old beloved granddaughter has been born into a full-throttle revival of all this bullshit.
I do find that I’m feeling the power of my experience and wisdom more than ever now.
They want us to shrink ourselves. They also want us to fear growing old. Interesting, isn’t it, considering what the only other option to growing old actually IS…
