Love this! I also find I’m much more enthusiastic about movement than exercise. My resistance to Exercise as a separate activity is so difficult to overcome, but biking across the city to run a silly errand somehow feels good 🤷‍♀️ I’m inspired by you and the idea of getting stronger though. I might see what pilates or strength training is along my bike commute…

There’s a particular cognitive dissonance, it seems to me, in watching the same woman participate in this strong but skinny facade who beautifully portrayed a horror version of how women are erased and put out to pasture past a certain age in The Substance.

Of course, there’s no doubt the film presupposed a certain level of conventional attractiveness in attempting to portray our treatment of older women. The message of the story seemed to be that this erasure happens even to thin, fit, beautiful white women who don’t look their age (whatever that means). So perhaps her choices aren’t as dissonant as they seem to me.
