I read this standing in my kitchen, which feels right since you wrote it instead of resting. I've spent the week with Phillis Wheatley, with the examination she had to sit for in 1772 just to be believed as the author of her own poems. Your line about choosing joy and love again and again landed somewhere old in me. We talk so much about the fight that we forget the rest was never separate from it. Have you found joy gets easier to choose the longer you've been doing this work, or does it stay a daily decision?

Thank you for sharing this beautiful reflection. I think for me it does get it easier with time but I always have to keep reminding myself of the necessity of joy and that we are entitled to rest. But the more I practice it, the more easeful it becomes.
